About the Evelyn Blose Holman Education Foundation
In its mission, the Evelyn Blose Holman Education Foundation provides financial assistance for students to advance their education. This foundation helps students access programs and resources to achieve the highest quality education, while fostering and encouraging the best in the individual. The Evelyn Blose Holman Education Foundation welcomes student applicants residing in Bay Shore and attending the Bay Shore School District. The foundation will generate and distribute resources for enrichment programs and projects aimed at enhancing the quality of education and educational opportunities.
The Foundation will carry out its mission by focusing support in the following areas:
- Student development
• Support new approaches to improving student achievement
• Provide funds for enrichment activities
• Provide equipment and facilities not funded through other means
- Community/school partnerships
• Promote community awareness of educational challenges and solutions
• Develop enrichment programs to address the needs of the Bay Shore students
- School District and community progress
• Foster the development of alumni relations
• Provide a vehicle for individuals, businesses and organizations to share resources and gifts with the Bay Shore School District and its students
Goals
The Evelyn Blose Holman Foundation seeks to assure that each Bay Shore student remains competitive for the college of his/her choice by accessing opportunities, while in high school, that contribute to his/her academic success.
While not all encompassing, such activities may include:
college coaching, summer programs at college campus, college visits and any other such activity that prepares students for college academic life.
Guidance counselors, teachers and administrators may suggest programs/activities or wish to invite college admission officers to Bay Shore for individual/group presentations that pertain to our goals.
Sample areas for discussion include dress for success, manners and influence, internet cautions, resume building, interviewing techniques and common application limitations.
Process
A student may present an application and case for his/her need or project. Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Applications forms are available from the Foundation website and Guidance office.
Students may be referred to another funding source such as the Student Aid Committee for Scholarships or other Board of Education approved funding sites.
Students may receive partial funding.
The EBH Foundation website plans to develop an online process (Kickstarter or Kiva style) for students to present vetted projects for public sponsorship.
The Evelyn Blose Holman Education Foundation welcomes student applicants residing in Bay Shore/Brightwaters and attending the Bay Shore School District.
